A commissioned design for a wealthy patron, the first Wisteria Lamp was created in 1901 by Tiffany Studios.  Using hundreds of pieces of glass and juxtaposing light, dark and striated clusters of opulent blues and greens, the Wisteria Lamp  is considered by many the culmination of Louis Comfort Tiffanys years of experimentation and experience, as it combines artistic brilliance with technical virtuosity.

The wisteria grows in an explosion of color, as the hanging buds near the ground blossom first, and separate branches grow at different rates.  The shades become deeper as the vines drip down, creating a vibrant radiance of elegant luminescence. The gnarled, winding trunk of the wisteria forms the cast bronze base of the lamp.
