Reproduced from The Washington National Cathedral, the nationally acclaimed "Space Window" is a stained glass tribute to mans achievements in science and technology.
The original Space Window was designed by stained glass artist, Rodney Winfield (American b. 1925). At the dedication ceremony of the Window in 1973, the astronauts of Apollo 11 presented a rare and precious gift to the Washington National Cathedral, a lunar rock. The rock, which is now embedded in the window itself, is visible to all but safely beyond reach, like the moon itself. The Space Window, with its 3½ billion-year-old rock, is a humbling and inspiring memorial that honors mans courage to dream and explore his universe.
